➥ A Leaf In The Wind
Wow. You like someone less because of his good fortune and healthy life decisions. In other words, you’re basing your judgement on someone because “life’s not fair.” You’re life’s going to be pretty miserable unless you learn to let go of resentment.
Tenzin moved on from a relationship that wasn’t working. He did a good thing. And from what we can assume from something said in the show, THAT relationship was making Lin and Tenzin more unhappy then the fact that they split.
Lin doesn’t need Tenzin to be happy. She does not need to be in a relationship to be happy. Her happiness is not dependent on anyone else but her. If she is unhappy, which there hasn’t been anything in canon saying that she ISN’T btw, then Tenzin isn’t the reason.
Perhaps, even to an extent, the break-up could’ve been mutual? (Big stretch there—I think I’ll let coldiron and mrspiritual be the ones to draw that conclusion/headcanon). But I’m just so inclined to think, knowing how Lin reacted to receiving babysitting duties in episode 10, that Lin never wanted kids.
Now, this would obviously have been a major deal-breaker for Tenzin, who had the existence of an entire race resting on his shoulders. Regardless if that was Tenzin’s line of logic or not, in any relationship, if one partner wants kids and the other doesn’t, they shouldn’t stay together.
Lin may have been hurt, seeing that the reason they needed to end it was because of her not wanting kids. That may be the reason why she seemed bitter in the first few episodes, but it in no way implies that she ever has or ever will need Tenzin (or any romantic partner) to make her happy.
